The primary objective of ENGL 230 is to help you refine your critical reading and writing skills by introducing you to various critical approaches currently used by professional scholars of literature. This course is challenging as it encourages you to expand your professional vocabulary and become more self-conscious about the process by which you experience meaning in your reading and explore meaning in your writing.  In the end, however, you will become a more confident reader/writer and enhance your personal experience with literature.  During the semester you will write a few short papers using different critical strategies.  In addition, you will also gather and compose materials for a critical casebook on a specific literary work of your choice.  By the end of the semester, you will be an expert on your casebook topic!.
