Welcome to the LitCrit Web!

The materials on this website were initially  developed during the summer of 1999 by Dr. Tom Fish and Jennifer Perkins with the support of a Student/Faculty research grant from the Appalachian College Association

This website supports the study of literary criticism by undergraduate English majors at University of the Cumberlands.  However, its resources are available for public use.  If you choose to add links to materials included here on your own website, please include a link to this page.  We hope you will find some useful information in the various sections of the site.

Critical Theory  -- In this section you will find overviews of a number of critical approaches to literature, along with critical summaries of important essays on each theory and samples of student writing using each approach.

Critical Practice -- This section contains some "nuts-and-bolts" information on the craft of documentation, quotation, and paraphrase.

Writer's Workshop -- If you are interested in seeing how much you know about literary theory and practice, here's the place to come.  Included are online quizzes on each approach covered under the Critical Theory node, as well as quizzes on MLA Documentation.

Glossary -- Are you clueless about vraisemblance or reflection theory?  This glossary of literary terms will give you at least two-bits worth of information.

If you have comments or suggestions, please email Dr. Fish
